We have a birthday tradition around our house - you get to choose your birthday menu. Granted, we don't always get to have our family dinner on your actual birthday, but we get it as close as possible. We actually had a very important football game on Jewell's birthday, October 2nd. We were playing our biggest rival, and all Jewell wanted for her birthday this year was to win against Evangel. Well, we did!
We waited until the Sunday afterwards to have her family birthday dinner. As she has for the last several years, she chose a low country boil. I did a shrimp boil tablescape for her 13th birthday dinner. (I highly recommend you check out that post as it also has a triple chocolate buttermilk pound cake. Yep. TRIPLE chocolate. Go ahead. I'll wait!)
I decided this time to do a Fall Colors tablescape. After all, Fall is her favorite season.
This is what my table looked like before I decorated. I had laid something down, who knows what, and Possum decided to be a feline paperweight.
Before I actually set a table, I usually gather everything and then snap a quick picture to see how it all works together. I was very pleased with this warm and cozy palette!
I love layers. The more the better! I found this beautiful autumnal tablecloth at Children's Harbor in September for $6. It was my starting point. The wood-look pinecone charger is by Better Homes and Gardens. I got them at Walmart several years ago. The orange dinner plates are from Dollar Tree. The yellow dessert plate is "Toscana Gold" by Pier One. I got them at Adullum years ago for .50 each. The "Grateful" plate is from Dollar Tree this year. Obviously we don't need that many plates for dinner, but it's like stacking bracelets. They're so pretty together!
I told you about the floral arrangement, teapot, quail, and acorns, in the last post. I just took them out of the wicker tray they were in to save a little room.
The napkins came from a big superstore in North Carolina. I can't remember the name, but Gerald and I were in NC for a wedding before the kids were born (over 18 years ago, at least), and we found a bunch of mill store outlets. I bought several sets in different colors. The amber colored stemware is "Jamestown" by Noritake. The flatware is vintage and teakwood-handled. I got them at Adullum in 2017. I got four place settings for about $5. I hand wash them to keep them in top shape.
I pulled out some of the pumpkins I had in the tray arrangement on the kitchen table and scattered the acorns. I love the aluminum tealight inserts. The large one came from Michael's (half off years ago), and the shorter one is actually a small Mason jar. The lids come from Hobby Lobby, and you can put them on any size jar. Candles are a must for special dinners.
I love how the colors repeat. I once heard when decorating a room, you should choose three colors and repeat them at least three times (preferably in different textures) within the room to tie it all together.
I was so pleased with these alstroemerias from Amazon. They look so real.
You can see how the golds and oranges come off the table and up into the china cabinet.
I really work to fill the center of a table with pretty things to look at.
I work hard to make the positioning of things look random. Actually, I usually try to just throw them down and then move anything that looks to orderly.
The sunflowers on the chest of drawers mimics the color scheme.
Don't they look real?!
I really think the acorns make the table more full and inviting.
More of the pretty artificial flowers!
I loved this tablesetting. I almost reset the table the next day so I could just look at it! Alas, as homeschoolers, we never know where we may land to do school each day, so I always need my tables clear. I try not to repeat a tablesetting, but this one is definitely one worth repeating! Maybe I can tweak it a little next year. Who knows?!
I'm so glad you stopped by my neck of the woods!
