Jewell's 13th Birthday Dinner...A Shrimp Boil

I'm not sure if you felt it, but last Friday, there was a slight shift in the cosmos.
We sure felt it around here. Jewell turned 13!

We had our homeschool co-op on Friday morning, and we always lunch with friends afterward. We tried a new Mexican place and loved it. Here's the birthday girl after the wait staff sang "Happy Birthday" to her.

My inlaws had come to town for Faulkner's Benefit Dinner the night before, so I took advantage of having both sets of grandparents on hand and planned Jewell's birthday dinner for Friday night. We were all tired from a late night and an early morning, but I got home Friday afternoon about 3:30 and pulled together a nice little dinner party!

Jewell and Brack with Gerald's parents (Pop and Moppie) at the Benefit Dinner.

We have a family tradition of letting the birthday boy or girl pick their birthday meal. Jewell chose shrimp. I knew with all we had going on, it had to be a simple menu, so I planned a shrimp boil with salmon cakes and garlic bread for dinner. We had a triple chocolate pound cake for dessert. Yum!

Today I'll show you the table setting and tomorrow, I'll share menu details.

You've seen several of these items before, but each time, I try to use them in a different way. I used this set of dinnerware for Father's Day. The pattern is by Oneida and is called "Mosaic Shells". You can read more about our "Gone Fishing" Father's Day luncheon here

I love these woven grass placemats. They're so versatile. I last used them for Mother's Day. You can read that post here. You can also see a different view of them here when I used them for an elegant birthday dinner for my mother.

I don't think you've seen the blue glasses before. To be honest, I don't know the pattern name. They weren't expensive. I got them several years ago on sale at Service Merchandise. Yep, they're that old! I used my everyday flatware pattern called "Austen" by Yamazaki.

I bought the net for less than $5 at Hobby Lobby and used it for Father's Day, but I thought it was also appropriate for our shrimp dinner. Traditional shrimp boils are poured out on newspaper, but I had this great shrimp boil platter that I got 75% off years ago at Dillards. I think I paid maybe $15 for it. I did place some newspaper on the table for shrimp shells. The beautiful stag horn ferns were from the Benefit Dinner the night before. They were really too tall for my table setting, but I needed something green, and they are so pretty. We lingered around the table after dessert, and I eventually took them off so we could see each other better as we talked.

All of this was sitting on top of my unbleached cotton tablecloth with matching napkins, which go with practically everything. I have loved these for many, many years!

So there's the table setting for Jewell's 13th Birthday dinner. Tomorrow I'll share the recipe for the delicious Triple Chocolate Pound Cake.

One last shot of the birthday girl and her sidekick, little brother Brack. Jewell used her birthday money from her grandparents for her new Eno. They loved using it with the cool weather we had this past weekend. They even attempted to sleep in it Saturday night and made it until about 1:00 am before the cold and mist got to them! I sure do love these two!

I'm so glad you stopped by my neck of the woods!
