Half-Stitched Quilt Club Wrap Up

Members of the UCC Ladies' Book Club loaded up a few months ago and headed south to Ft. Deposit for an afternoon of great food, fun, and fellowship.  Club member, Nancy Foster, was our host.

Nancy's home was beautifully decorated for the holidays.
It was full of pheasants and feathers and Fall!

Nancy set a beautiful buffet, with her mother's stunning silver punch bowl as the main focus.  Her mother-in-law, Sister Joyce Foster, and her sister-in-law, Tina Foster, helped with the food.  Mrs. Foster's chicken salad was some of the best I've ever tasted,  and Tina made a delicious chocolate pound cake.  We also had sand tarts, pickle sandwiches, mints, cheese straws and cheddar biscuits.  Punch and coffee rounded out the offerings.  It was all so very delicious!

After we enjoyed our refreshments, we sat down to discuss that month's book selection, The Half-Stitched Amish Quilting Club by Wanda E. Brunstetter.  Nancy loves Amish-themed books and made the selection since she was hosting.  She has traveled numerous times to Amish Country, her favorite place being Holmes County, Ohio, where she has stayed in an Amish B&B.  She is still in touch with her hosts there.  Her experience with the Amish community added much insight to our discussion.

It is customary at our meetings to announce the next selection and give away a copy as a door prize.  Sometimes we have a drawing, other times, it goes to the oldest or youngest in attendance.  Once it was given to the person with a penny under their placemat.  This time, I decided to have a little pop-quiz to decide who would get the book.  (Or rather a pre-test since the questions came from the material for our next selection.)  I asked six questions, and both Wanda Warmack (the one with her nose in the book) and Abby Wallace (the giggler) got all six right.  Abby got the tie-breaker, so she won the book!

It was a wonderful afternoon, and everyone really enjoyed the fellowship!

So - I know you're just dying to find out the next selection.
Well, the wait is up!  Drum roll, please.....

I will be hosting the club at my home on Saturday, March 8, when we will discuss the book
Mount Vernon Love Story by Mary Higgins Clark.

As always - we invite anyone who can to join us!
