Cupcake Party Crafts Station

Happy Monday! Today I want to show you the crafts we did as part of our Miss Manners Cupcake Party that I hosted a couple of weeks ago.  You can always jump back and read my first post on this party in order to get up to speed.

This is the Stampin' Up stamp set that gave me my inspiration for this party. It's called "Sprinkles of Life", and it is this year's version of a special promotion they do. $3 from each kit sold goes to Ronald McDonald House. They have already donated more than $1 million to date as a result of the annual stamp sets they sell.

This is the matching punch that you can purchase. It makes it so easy to create precious projects with these two products. My favorite stamp sentiment from this set is "Money can't buy happiness...But it can buy cupcakes. And that's kind of the same thing!" So true...

I fit all the girls into the dining room to eat, so that I could use my kitchen table for crafting. I covered my table with an unbleached cotton tablecloth that goes with everything, then unrolled the prettiest roll of craft paper gift wrap as a runner. Where'd I get it? You guessed it - The Dollar Tree! In fact, I had used this same roll for another party, but it was undamaged so I rolled it back up and kept it!

My mother brought Jewell the flowers for her birthday dinner a couple of nights before this party, so they were a perfect (and free) centerpiece for this table. You can see samples of the two cards above that each girl made at the party.

I went ahead and did the stamping and prepared everything so the girls just had to assemble the cards. Since we had so many, I knew it would be hard (and messy) for them to complete the cards soup to nuts.

Again, I divided them into smaller groups and had them working on each card at separate ends of the table, then they switched to make the other.

They didn't seem to mind that I had done most of the work for them.

They enjoyed the creative process, and even though I had examples for them to look at, each girl's card was a little different!

Let me show you how I made the cards...

I began by scoring a piece of 8.5"X11" cardstock down the middle. This makes it much easier to fold neatly. I have a Martha Stewart cutting and scoring board that I used for this. It scores GREAT but it is HORRIBLE at cutting. Oh well. Even Martha's not perfect!

Then I used my trusty (and inexpensive) Fiskars paper trimmer to cut the paper in half.

Now I had two cards, ready to stamp!

Years ago I purchased this Martha Stewart Custom Stamp Setting Kit. It has millions of letters and numbers and several trays that you can use to personalize your own stamps. 

I made my own stamp reading "MORE THAN"...

Under that, I stamped a cupcake.

Cute, huh? More than cupcakes? That's a lot of love..

To make the hearts for this card, I used some of the cupcake wrappers I had bought.

I flattened them and folded them in half.

Then in half again.

One more fold...

Then I cut the folded edge to form the arches of the heart.

Sweet and simple!

In order to hold the flaps together...

I glued the inside and then glued the heart to the card front and wrote

"i love you".

When the glue was dry, I fluffed the heart a little.

Apparently, I didn't take a good picture of the card on the left, but I think you can see it pretty good.

When I was making my invitations, I stamped and punched quite a few extra cupcake components.

I stamped "You're so sweet" and cut it out with a circle punch...

and used a stamp from the "Sprinkles of Life" kit for the inside.

They were free to use as many or as few of the cupcakes and other elements as they liked, and again, each card was a little different. I had them write their names on the back of each card so we could keep them straight.

My mom was a big help since we had so many girls doing so many different things!
